Have a shot of this turmeric ginger shot each morning to keep the flu away!
My friends have been raving about this almost magical ginger shot that’s helping them to stay healthy during flu season (and they all have small kiddos – meaning that they’re exposed to bugs all the time). As a nutritionist I got intrigued when they talked about it and just had to try it out myself straight away.
I made my own version and added some other ingredients to make it even more potent and I’ve been drinking this now for a month and I’ve been loving to start my day with this drink! It’s slightly fiery and it really wakes me up! And I will for sure drink this turmeric ginger shot when flu season on it’s way!
Turmeric Ginger Shot – Breakdown
This drink is truly invigorating and a great way to start your day with. But can this turmeric ginger shot really keep the bugs away? I did some research and let’s break it down.
Let’s start with turmeric.
Turmeric has been raved for it’s potential health benefits for a long time now and I believe turmeric is here to stay! Golden milk anyone?
Curcumin is the active compound that makes turmeric so potent but what also gives it, its bright yellow colour. Turmeric has shown to have strong anti-inflammatory properties.
Curcumin also has powerful antioxidant activity. It can both provide the body with antioxidants and it can also also boost the body’s own antioxidant activity. This can help to strengthen the immune system and which may also help to fight infections.
It may also have antibacterial properties against a range of different bacterias.
Ginger is a root that belongs in the same family as turmeric (and we all know by know that turmeric is good for you) that’s been used as a home remedy for ages to treat flu’s and colds and other ailments. The most established action of ginger is its ability to treat nausea and sickness and its effectiveness has been demonstrated numerous times.
Ginger is also loaded with antioxidants and has powerful anti-inflammatory effects which can help to support the immune system and to keep the body strong. And a strong immune system is essential to fight the bug
It has also been shown to have antibacterial effects and antiviral effects. This study on human cells showed that fresh ginger may have an protective effect on HRSV virus, which can cause respiratory tract infections, and this effect was more effective when ginger was given before the viral infection. It has also been shown to have strong antimicrobial activity and has been shown to be able to stop the growth of microbes.
The black pepper is added as piperine, an active compound in black pepper, can improve the bioavailability of curcurmin with 2000%! Impressive right?
Loaded with vitamin C, it can help to support your immune system!
Can soothe a sore throat and also has antibacterial properties.

TURMERIC GINGER SHOT – VERDICT
So can this turmeric ginger shot prevent flu’s and colds? This shot may have both antibacterial and antiviral properties, which can help to protect against flu’s and colds. Also, this drink may support your immune system as it’s rich in antioxidants and may also have anti-inflammatory activities! However, the studies showing these properties on turmeric and ginger where made on isolated cells and bacterias, not directly on humans, so they might not reflect how things work in the human body, so more research is needed in this interesting area of possible health benefits of both turmeric and ginger!
BUT! Ginger has been used as a home remedy for colds for a long time and home remedies should not be underestimated! They’ve been tested and tried for ages and there’s a reason why we use them
Because sometimes they really work!
But remember, a healthy lifestyle with an overall nutrient dense diet, stress management, good sleeping habits and exercise is what’s most crucial for a healthy body and strong immune system!
As both ginger and turmeric are quite potent – check with your doctor if you’re pregnant, have any health conditions or taking medication before drinking this shot as there are medicines that can interact with ginger and turmeric!
Starting your day with this turmeric ginger shot is a great way to boost your body with antioxidants, vitamins, anti-inflammatory and phytochemical compounds that can have powerful benefits to your overall health! Added bonus is that it tastes delicious!
