Chili chocolate balls that have a nice kick to them from the chili flakes!
Raw food sweet treats is one of many pretty amazing things to enter the world of food and nutrition. Not only do they provide you with vitamins and minerals, they are also quick to make, delicious and and you can vary the ingredients almost endlessly. I’ve made similar balls with lemon & ginger and apricot & cinnamon. But most of the time I make them with chocolate. And sometimes I add a pinch of chili to them. Yes, chili.
Chili and chocolate, a weird combination you might think?
But believe me, it’s a divine combo.
These balls are based on nuts, seeds and dried fruit. When making these, I recommend you to process the nuts/seeds first and then add the dates and combine it all together. This will yield balls with a smoother consistency.
If you don’t have the nuts/seeds used in this recipe, you can use whatever nuts & seeds you have at home. Walnuts work really well, as well as sunflower seeds.
This recipe will make 10-12 chili chocolate balls.
- 100 g dates
- 50 g almonds
- 40 g desiccated coconut
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp cold coffee or water
- 1 tsp chili flakes
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 tbsp honey optional
Place almonds and desiccated coconut in a food processor and blend until they have been processed into smaller pieces.
Add the dates, cocoa powder, coffee, chili flakes and salt. Blend and taste. If it needs more sweeter, add a little bit of honey or another date. Blend until smooth.
Roll into balls, and roll them in coconut, chopped nuts and a little bit of chili for an additional kick. Keep in the fridge.
Will keep in the fridge up to a week.
